This series is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba for a maximum of 1.0 hour. Participants should only claim credit for the actual number of hours attended. The University of Manitoba CPD Medicine Program is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME).

Description:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to

  • Recognize the importance of defining evidence-based medicine by its essential components in order to apply it to individualized care
  • Identify key characteristics of a clinical role model for effective evidence-based practice teaching
  • Recognize the key role of information mastery in evidence-based practice teaching
  • Review the few, but essential, biostatistics that clinical teachers must be able to translate to clinical learners
  • Examine possible solutions to commonly cited barriers to teaching evidence-based practice in a clinical setting.
