The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is a nationally recognized training course designed for healthcare professionals who may be involved in the resuscitation of newborns, including physicians, nurses, midwives, and respiratory therapists.
The course combines online learning with hands-on, instructor-led simulation to teach the essential skills and systematic approach needed to manage newborns in distress. Emphasizing effective communication, teamwork, and evidence-based practices, NRP prepares participants to respond confidently and competently in high-pressure situations. This training is critical for improving outcomes in neonatal emergencies and ensuring the safest possible start for newborns.
Program Delivery
NOTE: There is a mandatory online exam to take prior to attending the program
Component 1 | Pre-course Preparation
Self-directed study is required. Textbooks are included in the exam fee. This is followed by an online (independent) exam to be completed prior to the didactical portion. Exams not taken within this time frame will become invalid and the learner will be required to purchase another exam and restart the process.
Certificate of Exam Completion
This will become available online upon completion of the online exam and confirms your ability to participate in the on-site workshop component.
Learners must provide, by seven days before the session date, the confirmation certificate stating successful completion of the online exam. Failure to provide this document denies access to the workshop without refund. Please email the certification to lifesaving.courses@umanitoba.ca
Component 2 | On-site Workshop
This is an advanced course! The workshop consists of integrated skills station and team-based scenarios. Upon successful completion, a Completion Card will be presented from the CPS. This card does not imply clinical competence in this area but indicates participation and completion of the course.
