Description:

This 5-day hands-on and in-person workshop, jointly presented by the George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) and the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM), will introduce participants to Python through a combination of instruction and hands-on exercises. Participants will gain an understanding of Python programming syntax, best practices, data processing using the Pandas library, and data visualization and analysis.

No prior experience with Python will be assumed. Instructions for installing Python and other required software will be provided upon registration. Participants will be expected to bring a Windows or Apple laptop and must have a Google account to access the Google Colab cloud computing environment.

Sessions will be held from 9am to 12pm (CT) on June 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th and 8:30am to 11:30am (CT) on June 24th.


Learning objectives:

  • Acquire a solid understanding of Python programming fundamentals including control structures, conditional statements, and functions
  • Learn data processing techniques using the Pandas library, including data cleaning, handling missing values, merging datasets, and handling large volumes of data efficiently
  • Gain skills in data visualization and descriptive data analysis to extract meaningful insights
  • Become proficient in setting up Python environments, managing libraries, and utilizing cloud computing resources like Google Colab for data science projects
  • Adopt best practices in programming, debugging, and version control
  • Learn how integrated development environments (IDEs) and computational notebooks enhance productivity and reproducibility

Cancellation Policy
In accordance with CPD Medicine policy:

  • More than 21 days’ notice: A refund will be issued, minus a 20% administrative fee (up to a maximum of $200).
  • Less than 21 days’ notice: No refund will be provided.

Special refund requests may be submitted to the event coordinator for consideration by the Scientific Planning Committee Chair, CPD Director or the Managing Director.
