Lipedema Canada Conference (LipCanCon) 2026: Doctors-Is-In Clinic (Pre-Conference)

Description:
The innovative “Doctor Is In” Clinic pairs internationally recognized lipedema experts with Canadian physicians and nurse practitioners to assess real patients with suspected lipedema. This mentorship-based model provides hands-on learning in diagnosis and assessment while increasing access to care for patients.
Spaces are limited. This activity is offered at no additional cost to registered conference attendees who meet the eligibility requirements below.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Perform a structured, standardized head-to-toe clinical assessment for lipedema using a supervised, evidence-informed diagnostic checklist in a real-time clinical setting.
- Apply clinical reasoning to identify and stage lipedema, integrating patient history, physical examination findings, and available diagnostic criteria.
- Differentiate lipedema from other conditions presenting with lower limb enlargement, including obesity, lymphedema, and lipohypertrophy, using clinical pattern recognition and assessment tools.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of clinical documentation tools, including standardized assessment forms and templates for diagnosis, staging, and medical necessity documentation.
- Communicate diagnostic findings and clinical reasoning effectively to patients, including explanation of lipedema diagnosis, staging, and initial management considerations.
- Collaborate with specialist physician mentors in a supervised clinical environment, demonstrating receptive engagement with real-time feedback and bedside teaching.
- Translate clinical assessment findings into appropriate written outputs, including diagnostic letters, medical necessity documentation, and prescriptions where indicated.
- Recognize patient-centred and trauma-informed communication principles when assessing individuals who may have experienced long diagnostic delays.
- Reflect on observed clinical practice and identify at least one actionable change to improve future assessment, diagnosis, or management of lipedema patients (Commitment to Change).
- Integrate mentorship feedback into personal clinical practice development, identifying gaps in knowledge, technique, or diagnostic confidence.
