Description

Join leading experts for a timely, evidence-based program addressing Canada’s HIV PrEP gap. This one-day educational event will explore HIV prevention and treatment strategies for women, people who inject drugs, and people experiencing houselessness, with a focus on translating data into real-world clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe current HIV epidemiology and transmission trends in the Prairie provinces. (CanMEDS Roles: Medical Expert, Scholar, Health Advocate, Leader)
  • Describe available HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) modalities and outline the clinical criteria for initiating PrEP. (CanMEDS Roles: Medical Expert, Scholar, Communicator, Professional).
  • Compare available PrEP options, including their indications, adverse effects, and limitations. (CanMEDS Roles: Medical Expert, Scholar, Communicator).
  • Integrate evidence-based principles of effective PrEP delivery into primary care and community-based practice settings. (CanMEDS Roles: Leader, Collaborator, Health Advocate, Scholar).
  • Confidently counsel patients at risk of acquiring HIV on PrEP options and initiate PrEP when indicated. (CanMEDS Roles: Medical Expert, Health Advocate, Communicator, Professional).
