CPoCUS Independent Practitioner (IP) Certification Courses
March 17–19, 2027
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Manitoba is pleased to offer two Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society (CPoCUS) Independent Practitioner (IP) certification streams. Both intensive 3-day courses combine hands-on ultrasound training with the national CPoCUS certification examinations.
Participants must register for one of the following certification streams.
Registration Options
Option 1 – CPoCUS IP-Core Certification
Designed for clinicians seeking certification in core point-of-care ultrasound applications.
Participants will complete a minimum of 50 supervised scans in:
- FAST
- Aorta
- Pericardium
- Core Lung
- First Trimester Obstetrics
The course concludes with the national CPoCUS written, visual, and practical examinations for IP-Core certification.
Prerequisite: Completion of a nationally recognized introductory ultrasound course with hands-on scanning experience.
Option 2 – CPoCUS IP-Resus Certification
Designed for clinicians seeking advanced certification in resuscitation ultrasound.
Participants will complete up to 50 supervised scans in:
- Advanced Cardiac Ultrasound
- Lung Ultrasound
- Inferior Vena Cava (IVC)
The course concludes with the national CPoCUS written, visual, and practical examinations for IP-Resus certification.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of EGLS, EDE2, EDTU2, or an equivalent advanced ultrasound course.
Learning Objective
Develop competency in the integration of Critical Point-of-Care Ultrasound (CPoCUS) into clinical assessment and resuscitation by acquiring, interpreting, and applying focused ultrasound findings to support timely diagnosis, guide procedures, and inform evidence-based management of critically ill or unstable patients.

Dates: March 17–19, 2027
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily
Location: Clinical Learning & Simulation Facility (CLSF), Level 0000, University of Manitoba
Registration Fee: $5,225 per participant
Please note that separate Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society (CPoCUS) membership and certification fees may apply and are payable directly to CPoCUS, depending on the certification stream.
Continuing Professional Development
Upon successful completion of the course and certification requirements, participants will receive documentation confirming completion of their selected CPoCUS Independent Practitioner certification stream.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations more than 6 weeks from the course date will receive a FULL refund, minus a $150 administration fee. Cancellations within 4-6 weeks of the course will receive a 50% refund, minus a $150 administration fee. No refunds for cancellations received withing 4 weeks of the course date. If the registrant/resident (or program) is able to find a replacement to take the course in the place of the registrant who cancelled, the registration fee can be transferred to the new participant.
The responsibility to find a replacement lies solely with the resident or program. The Department of Emergency Medicine reserves the right to cancel any course up to the week prior to the course date. Registrants will be notified by email. A full refund will be issued for any cancelled course. The Department of Emergency Medicine is not responsible for any costs, including but not limited to, airline or hotel fees or penalties.
Costs of transaction refund will be additional.
