Each year, over 3,000 Manitobans experience a heart attack. The Manitoba ACS (Acute Coronary Syndrome) Network is dedicated to improving outcomes for all ACS patients across the province. Our mission is to ensure that every heart attack patient receives care that is evidence-based, timely, consistent and safe – regardless of where they live. To achieve this, we implement Recommended Standards, Clinical Algorithms, review and align local protocols and collaborate closely with health care professionals across the province on key initiatives.

Heart Attack Day is the annual education day for the Manitoba ACS Network, designed to equip healthcare professional with practical tools, resources and strategies to provide ACS care. This event brings together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, allied health professionals, cardiology technologists, educators from across Manitoba, with a shared focus on delivering optimal, coordinated and equitable care for patients with heart attacks.

Objectives

  • Describe and apply the best practices related to treatment of patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) in diverse clinical settings, in terms of provincial considerations and system-level strategies (Family Medicine Expert, Medical Expert, Leader, Scholar, Health Advocate).
  • Recall the clinical and research projects undertaken by the MB ACS Network (Scholar, Medical Expert, Family Medicine Expert).
  • Identify and discuss at least one key strategy for improving ACS care, as well as how to implement these strategies in their respective organizations and clinical settings (Leader, Collaborator, Communicator, Health Advocate).
